Dr. Claire Azzam
Optometrist
Dr Claire Azzam is native to Ventura County; she was born and raised in Simi Valley. She moved to LA at the age of 17 to attend UCLA where she graduated in 2004 with a Bachelors of Science in Psychobiology. At UCLA she was exposed to many health care professions including Optometry; when she started interning at a nearby Optometry practice it solidified her decision to enter the profession. She attended the SUNY College of Optometry in Manhattan, NY and graduated in 2008. She practiced Optometry all over New York City for 8 years. In 2016 she moved back to California with her husband, three boys, and border collie. She always knew she wanted to be in private practice and when the opportunity came to take over California Street Optometry she knew it was exactly what she wanted to do. She has been on many medical missions volunteering in both her undergraduate studies and in optometry school. She looks forward to doing more volunteer work in the future now that her boys are a little bit older.
Cheryl Armstrong
Optician
Cheryl Armstrong is a lifelong Ventura County resident, having grown up in Camarillo before owning a home and raising her son in Oxnard, and currently living and working in Downtown Ventura. After graduating high school, she attended local community colleges and spent eight years working for and managing record and video stores. Soon after her son was born, she discovered her love of opticianry. She started in a retail environment where she earned her certification from the American Board of Opticianry, and subsequently worked for a private optometry practice where she’d been a patient since childhood. After a decade of devoting herself to this field, she decided to try something else, only to be drawn back to it nearly six years ago. Since 2012, she has truly enjoyed being back in private optometry practices, and is very excited to be a part of Dr. Azzam’s new downtown practice. Her goal is to help everyone she can to have the best possible vision in everything they do, while also looking fantastic in a great pair of glasses!
